6LACK Channels Kendrick Lamar With Cryptic Website Teasing New Album

With his new record teaser, which includes a Dropbox-style website akin to how K. Dot teased Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, 6LACK has channeled his inner Kendrick Lamar.

After originally enlisting some of Atlanta’s water boys to help promote it by handing out roses with tiny notes that read, “See you soon, love 6LACK,” 6LACK continued to tease the release of his eagerly anticipated third album.

The R&B singer’s latest teaser, which was released on Monday (February 20), includes a Dropbox-style link that leads to a number of files, one of which contains the cover art for 6LACK’s upcoming album, S.I.H.L., which will be released in March.

Although a pre-order link via Interscope’s website also surfaced online, the album itself is password-protected. However, there are still few additional clues.

In April of last year, Kendrick Lamar executed a similar prank by posting a Dropbox link on his personal website oklama.com to launch the release of Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

A new page named “The Heart” with 399 folders was added to the website as part of an update. The majority of these folders were inaccessible. The Heart hinted that Kung Fu Kenny would shortly release “The Heart Part 5,” which he did on May 8. Fans pieced this information together.

In recent years, 6LACK has not released any new songs. When East Atlanta Love Letter, his most recent full-length record, was released in 2018, it debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold 77,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) also awarded it gold certification in December 2020.

Free 6LACK, his self-titled debut record, received a nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards in 2016.

Regardless, 6LACK has been working on his third endeavor while maintaining a busy schedule. Over the past four years, he has appeared on many tracks, most recently contributing a verse to Jaquees’ “Tell Me It’s Over.”

The native of Atlanta was also hard at work expanding his mental health advocacy, unveiling in October 2021 a partnership with Mental Health America of Los Angeles and the international therapy service BetterHelp.

With 50 BIPOC (black, indigenous, and other people of color) students in MHALA’s Transition-Age Youth Program, 6LACK donated six months of therapy sessions as part of the partnership’s goal to provide mental health tools and information for Black communities.

In a video message announcing his partnership with mental health, 6LACK wrote on Instagram, “The last few years have been fairly tough on the brain, heart, and soul.”
