On Tuesday, Hulu released a sneak peek of an original documentary series based on Spotify’s well-liked RapCaviar playlist (Feb. 7).
RapCaviar Presents will engage in discussions with the genre’s upcoming and top-charting artists, such as City Girls, Jack Harlow, Polo G, Roddy Ricch, Coi Leray, and others, about some of the most contentious problems affecting hip-hop today. On March 30, Hulu will debut all seven episodes.
Tyler, The Creator and Pharrell Williams each have a conversation about how they’ve influenced the other in the nearly two-minute short. During the 2015 Cherry Bomb European Tour, Tyler met his musical hero in the studio, and he remembers the things he spoke to him that caused a huge “turn” in the rapper’s sound. Pharrell offers this piece of advice in his own interview: “Make something unmistakable, and make it equally as contagious.” “Why do you perform music? Is it only for the sake of looking cool? Because that will wear thin. It can be as cool as the flashy sh*t when it is purpose-driven, but it will be far more meaningful.
“Oh f—!” Tyler exclaims in the next frame. “OK. No more being silly. … Music first. And at that moment, I went home. I just wanted to change everything. I just wanted to switch, and the switch f—ing happened.”
