On The 81st Anniversary, Thousands Will Honor Pearl Harbor's "Everlasting Legacy"

On Wednesday, thousands of people will congregate in Pearl Harbor to mark the 81st anniversary of the attack that propelled the US into World War II.

2,403 Americans lost their lives when Japanese airplanes attacked the naval facility on December 7, 1941. Despite this, after the war the U.S. and Japan have forged an alliance.

President Joe Biden stated in a statement that “from the loss and destruction at Pearl Harbor emerged victory against the forces of Nazism.” “Battles with the Axis nations were fierce, but they gave place to diplomatic alliances with powerful allies. And out of the gloom of World War II, freedom was born, and a world order founded on norms was established.”

In light of this, Pacific Historic Parks announced “Everlasting Legacy” as the theme for the 81st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, according to Hawaii News.

The importance of remembering Pearl Harbor and how the “Greatest Generation saved us from tyranny and brought forth peace through reconciliation,” according to the organizers, are the main points of the event.

Wednesday AM local time, a commemorative event will start at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial. On Kuroda field, a procession will take place later in the day. The procession is anticipated to have up to 2,000 participants, 60 cars, six floats, and ten bands.

The 80th Remembrance Ceremony at Kilo Pier in Honolulu was attended by 110 World War II veterans and roughly 40 Pearl Harbor survivors the previous year.

As a result of the raid, which notoriously sank many battleships, including the USS Arizona, USS Oklahoma, USS West Virginia, and USS California, the United States officially entered World War II.

One of the most important historical occurrences of the 20th century was the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, which essentially compelled the United States to enter World War II.

The day of the attack, United Press, the forerunner to UPI, stated that “a Japanese dive bomber, torpedo plane, and parachute strike on the large American naval and air base [caused] heavy loss of life and property damage in an unprovoked assault which prompted a global war in the Pacific.”
