In DC’s Joker 2 movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga is being considered to play Harley Quinn.

When they announced plans for a Joker standalone movie that excluded Jared Leto’s portrayal of the villain from Suicide Squad a couple years ago, Warner Bros. and DC Films took a startling turn. Phoenix took on the starring role in The Joker movie, which is not a part of the DC Extended Universe. Joker, which was directed by Todd Phillips, made more than $1 billion worldwide, and Phoenix won an Oscar for his outstanding performance.

Since 2019, there have been discussions about the possibility of a Joker sequel due to the enormous success of the film. For a while, it was unclear when the project would actually start, but Phillips provided a significant update last week. With the announcement of the Joker 2 title, he teased the finished screenplay with a shot of Phoenix reading it: Joker: Folie à Deux. The phrase “two or more people suffering a comparable mental condition” in the title led to suspicion that Harley Quinn or a second Joker would make an appearance.

It now seems likely that Lady Gaga will play Harley Quinn in Joker 2. Gaga is reportedly in talks to play the Joker’s longtime comic book love interest, according to the THR story. If an agreement is reached, Lady Gaga will have the chance to replace Margot Robbie in the DC Extended Universe’s Harley character. The sequel will reportedly be a musical, which is also confirmed by Gaga’s Harley casting.

A major undertaking for the artist would be if Gaga were to be chosen to play Harley Quinn in Joker 2. She made headlines in 2018 when she co-starred with Bradley Cooper in the film A Star Is Born, and her work earned her an Oscar nomination. The most recent performance by Gaga was in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci, when she once again put herself in the running for prizes despite not being nominated for an Oscar. She did, however, speak about her opinions on superhero films afterwards, indicating that she may be open to it if the project had anything to say about it.

It seems like the movie’s Harley Quinn fulfilled her duty to say something significant, assuming Gaga’s pact for Joker 2 closes. The talented musician may have been drawn in as well if it had been a musical. In any event, the possibility of Gaga playing Harley Quinn is undoubtedly an interesting development for the follow-up. It’s uncertain if Harley from Joker 2 will actually be Arthur Fleck’s lover and a prisoner at Arkham State Hospital, or if she’ll just be an Arkham psychologist who develops feelings for him. But given the new pace of these updates, it seems audiences will probably catch on quickly.
