The turntable rotated the wrong way during Harry Styles’ performance at the 2023 Grammy Awards on Sunday night, according to his backup dancers.
12 dancers performed a routine on a circular rotating platform adjacent to Harry and his band as they hit the stage at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles to perform the British singer’s song, “As It Was.”
Dancer Dexter Da Rocha responded to criticism of the performance on Monday by admitting in a since-deleted TikTok post that they practiced for 10 days with the turntable turning counter-clockwise, but that during their big moment on live television, it started spinning in the opposite manner.
To immediately reverse all of those patterns without ever moving in that direction? stated Dexter. We became accustomed to one way and it was the opposite way since it is circular, pulling you in different directions. Fortunately, we worked together and tried our best to achieve one cool formation.

He said, “Harry tried his best to walk backwards and sing backwards while he was doing it, which is extraordinary.
On his Instagram Stories, another dancer by the name of Brandon Mathis shared a similar experience.
When the curtain rose and it came time to play, he recalled, “there was nothing we could do to stop our turntable from spinning in reverse, backward, scaring out all of us, on live television.”
Harry had a successful night at the Grammys despite the technical issue, walking away with two wins, including Album of the Year for Harry’s House.
In his victory speech, the 29-year-old was criticized online for claiming, “This doesn’t happen to people like me very often,” with many users branding him tone-deaf for failing to acknowledge his privilege.
